What this is
Divorce and separation, in real life
Separation unravels more than a relationship: routines, finances, friendships, the version of the future you had been living toward, and sometimes the version of yourself that lived there. Even when leaving was right, the loss is real. Even when it was mutual, the anger is.
Counselling through separation is a place to process the ending honestly, hold up under the practical avalanche, and start assembling what comes next: on your terms, at your pace.

Sound familiar?
How it tends to show up
- Cycling between relief, rage, grief and doubt in a single afternoon
- Holding it together for kids, colleagues or parents, with nowhere to put it down
- Decision fatigue from lawyers, houses, money and logistics
- Replaying the marriage for evidence of what was real
- Loneliness that arrives even when the relationship was lonely too
- A future that feels blank where a plan used to be
How counselling helps
What the work actually looks like
With a practitioner experienced in separation and life transitions, the work meets whichever phase you are in:
- Processing the ending without needing it to be tidy
- Steadying yourself for the practical decisions that will not wait
- Co-parenting communication that protects the kids and your sanity
- Rebuilding identity: who you are when you are no longer half of that
Counselling is support, not clinical treatment: our practitioners do not diagnose or prescribe, and when what you need sits beyond counselling, their job is to say so and point you to it. Who they are and how we hold them to that is on Our Standards.
Fair questions
Asked before booking
We have not fully decided yet. Too early for counselling?
Not at all. The deciding season is one of the hardest to navigate alone, and working through it with someone neutral is often what makes the decision, either direction, feel liveable.
Can my ex and I attend together to manage the separation well?
Yes. Some couples use sessions to separate with less damage: clearer communication, cleaner agreements, steadier co-parenting. One booking covers both of you.
How long does this take?
There is no set course. Some people want support through the acute months; others check in around milestones. Pay-per-session means the shape is entirely yours.
