The four price models
- Private practice, unsubsidised: commonly $200 to $280 for a standard session, set by the individual practitioner.
- Private practice with Medicare: with a GP referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan, Medicare rebates part of the fee for up to ten sessions a calendar year. Typical out-of-pocket gap: $90 to $140 a session, plus the GP steps.
- Overseas subscription platforms: roughly $85 to $130 a week for Australians, billed four-weekly whether you book sessions or not.
- Pay-per-session online platforms: a flat price per booked session. InnerHub, for example, is $59.90 all inclusive, with no referral, plan, cap or subscription, and no rebate either.
What a year actually costs
Session prices hide the number that matters. A year of weekly support costs about $10,400 to $14,560 at unsubsidised private rates. The Medicare path softens the first ten sessions (roughly $1,100 in gaps) but returns to full price from session eleven. A $95-a-week subscription runs about $4,940 a year, booked or not. Weekly pay-per-session at $59.90 is $3,115, and only ever for sessions that happen.
The costs that hide in the fine print
- Cancellation and no-show fees of $100 to $200 at some providers, auto-charged.
- GP consultation costs and time for getting and renewing treatment plans.
- Subscription weeks you paid for and did not use.
Whatever route you choose, make the provider show you the whole price and the exit terms before money moves. Any provider worth paying will do it without being asked twice: ours are on the pricing page, terms included.
